Funeral services for Tommy Glenn Deel, 52, of Alba were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mineola, with Jim Nahas officiating.  Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Alba, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearer was Mike Rushing.  Mr. Deel passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at ETMC-Quitman.  He was born on November 10, 1952, in Leonard.  He lived all of his life in Alba. He was a truck driver and was a self-made man. He did a little bit of everything. He was a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mineola.  He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Paula Sue Sherwood Deel; parents, father and wife, Tommy and Cecil Deel of Yantis; mother and husband, Nell and Bill Roberts of Alba; son, Bryan and wife Billie Jo Deel of Alba; daughter, Melissa Deel of Huntsville; sister, Ginger Sweeden of Alba; brothers, Mark Deel of Emory, and Scotty Deel currently overseas; grandparents, Otis and Ethel Taylor of Alba; and one grandchild.

Marvin Pope

Funeral services for Marvin Pope, 92, of Alba, were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 6, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel in Alba, with Frank Summers officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Alba under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Pallbearers were Tod Byrd, Brian Adair, Jerry Scott Adair, Daniel Mosher, Ronny Sneed, and Colby Pope.  Mr. Pope died Thursday, March 3, at ETMC, Quitman.   He was born September 27, 1912, in Alba, to Bill and Ethel Harvey Pope and was a lifelong resident of Alba. He was a member of the Alba Church of Christ and was owner of Pope’s Landing Marina on Lake Fork. He worked for Wood County, Pct. 1 for many years.  He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Shelia Pope of Mineola; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jo Ann and Jerry Don Adair, and Dottie Alexander, all of Alba; two sisters, Mona Davis of Mineola and Ozella Taylor of Golden; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice Pope; daughter, Janoice Cobb; and three brothers.

Graveside services for Betty Anderson, 57, Emory, are scheduled for 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, at Salem Cemetery, Alba. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are with Hilliard Funeral Home, Van.  Betty passed away April 22 in Greenville.  Betty Ruth Anderson was born August 19, 1947, in Greenville to Ralph Corbit Anderson and Emma Ruth Morrow Anderson.  She lived in the area most of her life and was a homemaker.  She is survived by daughters, Robbie Barker of Wills Point, Kathy Hendley of Commerce; step-daughter, Misty Houghton of Sulphur Springs; mother, Ruth Davidson of Emory; brother, Bobby Anderson of Emory; six grandchildren, Timothy, Nichols, Steven, Cameron, Matthew and Haley.  She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Anderson.

Graveside services for Marjorie Marie “Polly” Low, 75, of Greenville were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 28, with Jeremy Westcott officiating.  Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Alba.   Mrs. Low died Friday, August 26, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital, Greenville.  She was born on February 18, 1930, in Rains County.  She lived most of her life in Alba. She was a nurses’ aide and a member of Salem Church of Christ, Alba.  She is survived by four sons, Phillip Riddle of Duncanville, Lonnie Riddle of Decatur, Donnie Riddle of Alba and Micheal Low of Sulphur Springs; three daughters, Wilma Graham of Alba, Paula Lindsey of West Tawakoni, and Belinda Webb of Winnsboro; three sisters, Irene Vinson of Alba, Mozelle Holland of Winnsboro, and Ofeal Cox of Forney; 28 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Samuel and Gracie Bell Harvey Nutt; husband, Leroy Low; and three brothers, Q.T. “Bill” Nutt, Evidene Nutt and Earl Nutt.  Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba, was in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services for Margie Ruth McKeown, 92, of Quitman, formerly of Mineola, were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, at Salem Cemetery, Alba, with Mr. Frank Summers officiating.  Mrs. McKeown died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace, Tyler.  She was born October 2, 1913, in Mineola.  She lived in Alba and then in Mineola for 25 years before moving to Quitman a few years ago.  She was a patternmaker in the apparel industry, and a member of the Church of Christ.  She is survived by three nieces, Dr. Rae S. Ragland of Memphis, Tenn., Marilyn Macbeth of Santa Fe, New Mex., and Camille S. Malone of Rockwall; one great-nephew; two great-nieces, and several great-great-nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard S. and Lura Dale Smith Shields; husband, Fred McKeown; three brothers, Walter S. Shields, Joe N. Shields, and O. Howard Shields; two sisters, Lillie Dale (Billie) Shields, and Tennie Lee Macbeth.  Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Tanja Hill Swindell, 43, of Mineola, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, at Wilson Bartley Funeral Home Chapel in Alba with Bro. Robert Stovall officiating.  Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Alba.  Pallbearers will be Mike Hill, Johnny Hill, Tony Hill, David Hill, Roger Gaby, Lance Wilkes, Casey Plunk, and Leslie Sweeden.  Ms. Swindell died Monday, March 20, at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler.  She was born December 20, 1962, in Grand Saline.  She lived most of her life in the Mineola area.  She was a Baptist.  She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Poston.  Survivors include her parents, John Paul and Pat Valentine Hill of Alba; two daughters, Jessica Be'Lue Swindell of Brownwood, and Aysha Mae Nicole Hill of Hainesville; one brother, Robbie Hill of Hainesville; two sisters, Carol Williams of Alba, and Terri Moss of Mineola; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Graveside services for Albert Lavern Morrow, 82, of Alba, were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 17, at Salem Cemetery, Alba, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home.  Mr. Morrow died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at ETMC-Quitman.  He was born on June 29, 1923, in Alba.  He served in the Army during World War II.  He had lived in Alba since 1982.  He was a farmer and a Baptist.  Mr. Morrow is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gracie Jones Morrow of Alba; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Larry Terre of Allen, and Kimberly and Eric Secretan of Summit Point, West Va.; sisters, Ruth Davidson of Emory, and Wyoma Love of Visalia, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services for Gauvin Eligha Bennett, 77, of Sumner, formerly of Alba, were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Beaty Funeral Home, Winnsboro, with Revs. Claudean Rust and Douglas Bennett officiating.  Burial was in Salem Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Jeremiah Bennett, Chris Bledsoe, Richard Durst III, Bob Arnold and Conrad Rust.  Mr. Bennett died Oct. 12, 2005, in Rowlett.  He was born April 3, 1928, in Alba to Everett Eligha and Lila Holland Bennett.  He was a custom builder in the construction business and a member of The Word Church in Greenville.  Survivors include son, Gauvin Eligha Bennett Jr. of Wylie; daughter, Margaret Ruth Bennett Eubanks of Wylie; brothers, Lloyd Bennett of Winnsboro, Douglas Bennett of LeBlanco, Haskell Bennett of Como, Miss., Cloyse Bennett of Caddo Mills; sisters, Flora O'Neal of Alba, Onita Murphy of Winnsboro, Claudean Rust of Greenville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by sons, David G. and Jimmy G. Bennett, and brothers, Vernon, Floyd and Franklin Bennett.  Arrangements were under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home, Winnsboro.

Funeral services for Ernest James "Ernie" Rounsaville, 70, of Alba, were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 28, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel, Alba.  Burial was in Salem Cemetery, Alba.  Pallbearers were Manual Ramirez, Pete Peterson, Alexander Willis, Dustin Burns, Joey Miles, and Jack Kelly.  Mr. Rounsaville died at his residence in Alba on Wednesday, April 26, 2006.  He was born on July 31, 1935, in Henrietta, Okla.  He lived his earlier years in Oklahoma.  He lived in Dallas for several years before moving to Alba eight years ago.  He was in commercial refrigeration, and he was a 32nd degree Mason.  He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Rhonda and Tony Dunne of Tulsa, Okla., and Linda and Tommy Burns of Alba; brother, Robert "Bobby" and wife Sylvia Rounsaville of Wichita Falls; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services for Edna Whitten, 72, of Alba, were held at Salem Cemetery, Alba, on Thursday, May 25, with Bro. Robert Stovall officiating.  Mrs. Whitten died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Green Acres Nursing Home, Emory,  She was born on Sept. 24, 1932, in Rusk.  She was a Baptist and a housewife.  SHe lived in Terrell for 20 years, then in Logansport, La for 17 years before moving to Alba in October 1999.  Mrs. Whitten is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Nina WHitten of Wiley, Steve and Debbie Whitten of Greenville, and Bobby and Debra Whitten of Lindale; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Brown of Alba; brothers, James King of Houston, and Randy King of Rusk; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maurine and Edward Williams of Houston, Charlotte and Harry Horn and Lou and Jack Keys of Rusk; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, James Audie and Mildred Lorrine Beasley King; husband, John Allen Whitten in October of 2000; three sisters, Marie Tilman, Clarice Mayon and Wanda Houston; brother, Curtis King; and great-granddaughter, Sabrina Flores.  Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba, was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral service for Sarah Lucille Chaney, 92, of Alba, will be held Thursday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel in Alba with Mr. Frank Summers officiating.  Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba.  Her grandsons Bobby Chaney, Johnny Chaney, Tommy Chaney, Brian Chaney, Michael Chaney and Jonathan Swafford will serve as pallbearers.  She died Monday, July 24, at Wood Memorial Nursing Home in Mineola.  She was born September 7, 1913, in Henderson to Joseph and Nancy Alice Curbo McCook.  Mrs. Chaney lived in Alba most of her life and was a member of the Alba Ladies' Club and Alba Church of Christ.  She was a sales representative for Avon since 1958 and was in Avon's President's Club.  She is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law, Jimmy Chaney and wife D'Lynn of Arlington and Mary Chaney of Alba; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Curtis Chaney; her parents; four brothers, Levell McCook, Verlie McCook, Thomas McCook, and Homer McCook; a sister, Minnie Courtney; a son, Don Chaney; and a great-grandson, Ryder Chaney.

ALBA — Delton Alexander, 80, of Alba died Aug. 11, 2006, at Hospice of East Texas-UT Tyler Health Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wieland Church of Christ near Greenville with Brothers Johnny Anders and Marlon Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at approximately 1:30 p.m. at Salem Cemetery in Alba.  He was born Aug. 29, 1925 in Alba and lived most of his life there. Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a painter by profession. He had been a minister of Wieland Church of Christ for the past 40 years.  Previous to his years at Wieland, Mr. Alexander had preached at Salem, Colony and Cumby after beginning his preaching career at Alba Church of Christ in 1959.  Survivinfgare his wife of 59 years, Ruth Bailey Alexander of Alba; one son and daughter-in-law, Marlon and Deanna Alexander of Alba; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Sam Fazel of Alba and Denise and Garry Clanton of Galveston; a sister, Doris Robinson of Fort Worth; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and extended family of the Wieland Church of Christ.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Annie Pope Alexander; five brothers; five sisters; and a grandson, Clay Clanton.  Pallbearers are Grady Sheperd, Larry Terry, Thomas Patterson, Billy Hooten, Charlie Walker Jr. and Lennon Sandlin. CADDO MILLS — Kenneth Greer of Caddo Mills died Oct. 15, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Caddo Mills with Tom Willis and Ray Hunter officiating. Burial is at 2 p.m. at Salem Cemetery in Alba.  The son of Benjamin and Ada Pope Greer, he was born April 4, 1931, in Alba. On Aug. 4, 1984, he married Patsy Hooker in Rockwall.  Mr. Greer was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked in aircraft maintenance for Raytheon. He was a member of the Church of Christ.  Survivors are his wife of Caddo Mills; a son, Tim Greer of Garland; stepsons Brady Williams of Caddo Mills and Gary Williams of Kansas City, Neb.; daughter Pat Greer of Garland; a stepdaughter, Kim Williams of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Florence Wayne and Billie Nell Finklea.  Pallbearers are Jerry and Larry Wagner, Alton Ray Weatherley, Brady Williams, James Bowen and William P. Bowen.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
