BIOGRAPHIES  GREER’S CYCLONE   CEMETERY LIST

These are the markers which are standing and readable in this cemetery.  Some of these are difficult to read and some of the information provided here may be incorrect because of that.  Every effort was made to verify the names and dates.

This cemetery is very neglected.  The grass and weeds are head high in places and many of the graves and stones are falling in.  There are many places where it is evident graves are located, but the stones are gone or have fallen over.

DIRECTIONS:  From Altus, Oklahoma take Highway 62 west toward Hollis.  Turn south onto Highway 6 toward Olustee.  Turn back West on Prairie Hill Road (about 4 miles after turning off Highway 62).  Go approximately 2 miles.  The remains of an old school building will be on your left.  Turn on the dirt road just West of this old building.  Go approximately 1 mile and turn back East on another dirt road.  Go approximately ˝ mile and the cemetery will be on your right just off the road.

AKERS, Floyd C.         Born:  May 7, 1867                    Died: July 25, 1940

In 1930, Floyd C. Akers, with wife Octavia, were in Olustee, Jackson County, Oklahoma.  This Floyd is the son of Daniel Akers, born 1822 in Montgomery County, Virginia, and Artie Branham Justice, born 1822 in Floyd County, Kentucky.

Floyd C. Akers (born 1867) appears to be the father of Floyd C. Akers, born 1894 and Georgia Akers, born May 8, 1898 and died July 8, 1913 and buried in Aaron Cemetery.  Floyd C. Akers (born 1894) appears on the 1920 Jackson County Census with wife, Hattie, age 24, and son, Bertie, age and daughter, Joyce, age 1-1/2.  Both children show to have been born in Oklahoma.  The family does not appear in Jackson in 1930, but Floyd C. Akers (born 1867) does in Olustee, Jackson County.  Most records show that he was buried in “Rock” Cemetery, Olustee, Oklahoma.  His grave is in Aaron Cemetery.

Floyd C. Akers (born 1894) married Hattie Maxey, daughter of Walter Lee Maxey, born January 12, 1851 in Newton County, Arkansas.  He died November 12, 1928 and is buried in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.  Hattie is a direct ancestor of Representative Glen Maxey from the State of Texas.  She was born June 28, 1897 in Travis County, Texas.  There is no record of her burial.

No record checked showed any other member of this family staying in Oklahoma.

In 1880, R. C. Bomar and his wife, Josephine Kennedy, were in Cooke County, Texas with their 4 children: Edward, Carrie, Jessie and Joy.  All the children were born in Tennessee, as were both parents.

There is no record placing them in Oklahoma in 1900-01, R. C. Bomar is buried in Aaron Cemetery, he has a marker which gives his date of death only showing that at the time of his death, he was 53 years, 9 days old.  No other information was available.

In 1880, the family was in Limestone County, Texas with the following children:  a son, J. W., age 3 years, and an infant daughter, not named, age 6 months.  They had another son, George William Chism, born May 3, 1881 in Limestone County, Texas.  He died November 21, 1951 in Portales, Roosevelt County, New Mexico.  The last known child born was Sarah, born in 1884 in Limestone County, Texas.  She married Charles E. Keener, a carpenter, born in 1866 in Indiana.  In 1920, they were in Altus, Oklahoma with one son, Rawls, age 8.  Also in the household was Alma Rogers, a sister in law born in 1891 in Texas.  She could be a sister to Sarah, but no proof.  It does not appear that any of this family remained in Jackson County after 1920.

Philliam was the infant daughter of P. M. and C. Goen.  A marriage record for P. M. Goin and Cornelia Ray was found in Johnson County, Texas dated November 20, 1879.

Cornelia Ray can be found on the 1870 Upshur County, Texas Census with her parents, Gabriel (born Georgia) and Mary Ray (born South Carolina).   Cornelia is the youngest of 7 children and only one born in Texas.  The other 6 children were born in Alabama.

I believe this is Phillip Madison Goen, a brother of William Stanley Goen, but I have no concrete proof.

Honea, Nona Pearl        Born:  December 23, 1898       Died: November 24, 1902

Nona Honea was born in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas and was the daughter of Leslie Lendolph Honea, born January 8, 1872 in Texas, and Delilah Alice Hammonds, born 1872 in Tennessee.  They married in 1891 in Oklahoma.

Four children appear with the family in 1920 in Floydada, Floyd County, Texas.  Of those 4 children, only Gladys Viola was born in Oklahoma.  She was born March 16, 1901 in Olustee.  She married a man named Glover and they had one daughter, Winona Wandyne Glover, born April 18, 1921 in Texas.  The entire Glover family died in Los Angeles County, California.

It appears that the only family member buried in Oklahoma is Nona Pearl who is buried at Aaron Cemetery.

Nickell, Vinyard         Born: June 2, 1894             Died:  August 22, 1908

These two men were brothers and the sons of George Washington Wheeler Nickell, born in 1849 in Kentucky and died in 1926 in Hardeman County, Texas, and Margaret Elza.  George Washington married three times and had children by all three wives, but those by Margaret are the only ones who had any ties to Oklahoma.

Samuel Henry and Vinyard were born in Henderson County, Texas and both died in Jackson County, Oklahoma and are buried in Aaron Cemetery.  The sizes of the markers are quite different, Samuel’s marker is much larger and more ornate.

John Greenville Nickell, was born February 5, 1883 in Henderson County, Texas and married Lela Sewell on January 1, 1904 in Oklahoma.  No other information was found.

The family appears to have been in Jackson County for about 5 years but none of the children remained.

Nunn, Charles Wesley       Born: March 16, 1863       Died: October 21, 1892

The only reference to this man is on the 1880 Johnson County, Texas Census.  He shows to have been born in Texas in 1863, his father was born in Missouri.  He is living in the household of Andrew J. Reeves, relationship “Other” and is working as a farm laborer.

 Park, Sarah H.        Born: October 28, 1892      Died: March 25, 1900

She was the daughter of James Washington Park, born September  17, 1856 in Madison County, Texas, and Sarah Elizabeth Webb, born October 25, 1855 in Madison County, Texas.  Both her parents died and are buried in Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas.

James and Sarah Park had 12 children, all born in Texas except the last 2: Lillie Maud Park was born April 24, 1898 in Mangum, Greer County, Oklahoma.  She married Guy Harris, born April 4, 1892 in Oklahoma.  Both died and are buried in Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas – Orba Yetta Park was born March 24, 1900 in Mangum, Greer County, Oklahoma.  She married Earnest Virgil Nash, born March 22, 1901 in Brazos County, Texas.  They married in Quanah on April 3, 1920 and both died and are buried there.

There does not seem to be any further ties to Oklahoma for this family.

Payne, Tularay       Born: September 14, 1900       Died: January 13, 1901

The only information I could find on this child is that he was the son of N. J. and G. M. Reeves (the information found on the tombstone.)

Reeves Infant           Born: October 28, 1898        Died:  October 28, 1898

This is the infant son of Henry Pierce Reeves, born December 23, 1857 in Mississippi, and Emily Ozella Honea, born April 15, 1866 in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas.  Henry died in 1953 and Emily on October 5, 1942, both in Johnson County, Texas.  I could find no other Oklahoma reference.

Robinson, Martin M.          Born: January 3, 1897       Died: October 13, 1905

These are children of H. W. and Mary A. Robinson.  I could locate no other information on this family.

 Robinson, Mary A.              Born: June 1, 1871             Died: November 13, 1912

This is the wife of H. W. Robinson.

Robinson, Maggie        Born:  No Date              Died:  1921

A Maggie Robinson was found on the 1920 Kiowa County, Census.  She showed as the mother in law of W. H. Simmons.  It is possible this is the same Maggie Robinson, but I cannot locate other records to verify it.

Sutton, M. E.                     Born: April 3, 1858             Died: April 29, 1915

David T. shows to be the son of J. D. and M. E. Sutton on his tombstone.  J. Y. would fit as a child because of the birth date, but it has not been verified.  They do not appear on any census nor any other records.
