Cemeteries of Texas:     Veda Bragg Mendoza    

Location:Two miles west of El Campo on Loop 525 (Old Highway 59).  This cemetery was first known as O.D.H.S.  It was started by the Sons of Herman in 1901, then later it widow-orphan">was opened to the public.  In 1953 it was renamed Garden of Memories and in 1964 perpetual care was established for the cemetery.

Maude Redwine Richardson told about her family visiting the grave of her little brother, Wilber Clarence Redwine, born in 1901 and died in 1903.  The all fom north Farenthold Street to the cemetery carrying water and flowers. This was about two miles distance one way.                                     

Mrs Sybil Kerr was the researcher but no dates are given when the cemetery was surveyed.  It is assumed that it was done in the 1980’s.  A note says all pages are in alphabetical order only as they were 1^st transcribed, then zeroxed (sic) from the cemetery records.  The names are alphabetical but not in alphabetical order.  No on-site work done.

Apparently the A through H was done on the Wharton County Historical  Commission survey sheets.  Then, starting with the H’s through Z have been zeroxed (sic) from the cemetery records.  The remaks column will show the block and lot number of the grave.  As an example, it will be shown as 510-2.
