Obituaries
Baker, Hazel Irene
  Hazel Irene Baker, 90, of Denton, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008, in Sanger. 
  She was born July 20, 1917, in Aubrey to William Calvin Redfearn and Edna Jane 
  Wells Redfearn. She married Truman Baker on October 15, 1938, in Marietta, OK. 
  He preceded her in death on February 5, 1990. She had retired as a cook for 
  Jefferson Davis Elementary School and several other Denton schools. She was a 
  member of McKinney Street Baptist Church.
  Visitation will be Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral 
  Directors. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in 
  the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. Sam Redfearn and Rev. Bill 
  Black officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. 
  She is survived by sons John L. Baker of Denton and Billy Jack Baker of 
  Sanger; grandson Charles Guinn Baker of Denton; and many nieces and nephews. 
  Her parents, husband, and nine brothers and sisters precede her in death. ~ ~

Brewer, Aiden Blaine
  Aiden Blaine Brewer, born April 28, 2008, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008 
  in Fort Worth. The infant son of Ashley Brewer and Heath McKethan of Denton, 
  Texas, and the Grandson of Tim and Marsha Brewer of Denton and Gail Steelman 
  of Sanger and Mark McKethan of Jersey City, New Jersey. 
  |In his short life, Aiden touched the hearts and lives of his family and the 
  loving staff of Presbyterian Hospital of Denton and Cook Children’s Hospital 
  in Fort Worth. 
  Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, June 7, 2008, at Roselawn 
  Memorial Park in Denton.  
  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the 
  organization, "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" at 1153 Bergen Parkway #M103,

Callis, Evan Michael
  
 
  Evan Michael Callis age 20 and a resident of Rowlett, TX. Born on December 22, 
  1987 in Dallas, TX and passed away on February 9, 2008. Evan was a 2006 
  graduate of Rowlett High School and was a member of a musical group in 
  Rowlett. He is survived by his mother, Valerie Pietsch and her husband David 
  and his father, Tim Callis and his wife Mary. Evan is also survived by his 
  sister Ashley Callis and his grandparents, Andy and Wilma Callis and his 
  fiancé, Alyssa Parco. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dick and 
  Betty Strong. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008 from 
  7:00pm till 9:00pm at Dalton and Son Funeral Home in Lewisville with funeral 
  services being held on Tuesday at 2:00pm at The Church of Corinth in Corinth, 
  TX with burial following at Roselawn Cemetery in Denton, TX. If you wish to

Huff, David
  David Huff, age 46, was husband to Eleni Christina Xeros and father to Elias 
  (17) and Alysia (14) Huff. David, a 20 year Denton resident, was a Denton 
  Rural Route Postal Carrier for the past 10 years and a former manager of two 
  local restaurants; The Greenhouse and the Prairie House. 
  David passed away at his residence, May 16, 2008. David was born in San Diego, 
  California, August 20, 1961. He is survived by his wife and children; and by 
  his parents, Clifford and Marilyn Huff of Carrollton; brothers, Donald Huff of 
  Lewisville, Steven Huff of Folsom, CA and Dennis Huff of Williamsport, PA. 
  Visitation will be Wednesday, May 21, 2008, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the DeBerry 
  Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 2 p.m. in

Sparks, Tommy Ray
  Tommy Ray Sparks, 77, of Princeton, TX, passed away Friday, June 6, 2008 at 
  his home. He was born May 24, 1931 in Lewisville, TX to Thomas Morgan and 
  Nannie Bell (Evans) Sparks. He was married to Arrie Lee Snow in April 1963 in 
  Lewisville. He was the Vice President and General Manager of the Southern Mail 
  Service in Dallas. He is a member of the Central Baptist Church in Lewisville 
  and the Masonic Lodge in Euless and Princeton. 
  A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 
  at Roselawn Memorial Park, on 3801 Roselawn Dr., Denton, with Rev. Buddy Owens 
  officiating. 
  Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, Arrie Lee Sparks of Princeton; daughter, 
  Judy Goodman of Lewisville; a sister, Margaret Kelley of Lewisville; and four 
  grandchildren, Whitney Grubbs, Jarrod Goodman, Caleb Goodman and Tommy Sparks, 
  II; and great-grandchildren, Britton Sparks and Berkley Sparks. Two sons, 
  Richard Ray Sparks and Samuel D. Sparks, preceded him in death.

  Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, Arrie Lee Sparks, of Princeton, Daughter, 
  Judy Goodman, of Lewisville, a sister, Margaret Kelley, of Lewisville, and

  Danny Starnes, 70, of Denton, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008 after a lengthy 
  illness with Leukemia.  He was born January 26, 1938 in Decatur to Leon 
  and Pearlie Mae Teague Starnes.  He married Mary Sue Moore on May 31, 
  1959 in Marietta, OK.  He was the owner of Autobody of Denton, Inc. 
  Visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral 
  Directors.  Funeral service will be Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. 
  at DeBerry Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
  
  He is survived by his wife, Sue Starnes of Denton; son, Darrell Kent Starnes 
  of Grapevine; daughter, Keila D’Ann Vest of Denton; sisters, Margueriete 
  Howard of Decatur and Nickie Brandon of Fort Worth; brother, Larry Starnes of 
  Sanger; and four grandchildren, DeWayne Starnes and Jason Starnes of Dallas, 
  Nicole Vest of Denton and Spencer Starnes of Grapevine.

Thrash, Beverly Jean
  Beverly Jean Thrash of Norman, Oklahoma (formerly of Corinth, Texas) passed 
  away after an extended illness on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Norman Regional 
  Hospital. She was born in Duncan OK, on August 30, 1936 to Walter Clarence and 
  Flora Inez Stewart.  Her family moved often, so she had the opportunity 
  to attend various schools in Oklahoma and Texas, graduating from high school 
  in Texas in 1954. 
  In the early 1960’s she moved to California and there she met and later 
  married Walter Wayne Thrash, a young man from Rogers, AR on November 11, 1961. 
  In 2001, they moved to Corinth, TX where her husband passed away in 2002. 
  For the past six months she has lived in Norman close to her brothers. 
  Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling as well as shopping and taking care 
  of her best friend and favorite dog, Cinnaman. 
  She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Flora Stewart; husband, 
  Wayne Thrash on July 17, 2002; and daughter, Wanda Vogel on March 19, 2008.
  
  She is survived by; son-in-law, Ron Vogel of Lake Dallas, TX; three brothers, 
  Bill Price and wife, Joyce of Newcastle, OK, Ernie Price and wife, Patti of 
  Norman, OK and Jim Price and wife, Rachel of Blanchard, OK; two grandchildren, 
  Tina McGinnis of Lake Dallas, TX and Ken Miller and wife, Meredith of Justin, 
  TX; four great grandchildren, Jeffrey Olschewski, Ashlee and Michael McGinnis 
  and Andon Miller; as well as many other loving relatives and friends. 
  Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2008 at Roselawn 
  Memorial Park in Denton. 
  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 
  1700 Rutherford Lane, Austin, TX 78754.

Welch, Vernon Dee
  Vernon Dee Welch, 72, of Denton, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 
  Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.  He was born October 26, 1935 in 
  Springtown to Joe Wheeler Welch and Millie Jane Welch.  He graduated from 
  Springtown High School and Texas Weslyn College.  He married Wanda Lee 
  Strother on March 30, 1957 in Fort Worth.  He was a sales representative 
  for Nabisco for 36 years and worked at the Denton Record-Chronicle.  He 
  was a member of Church of Christ, Elks Lodge, Lions Club and United Commercial 
  Travelers. 
  Visitation will be Friday, May 23, 2008 from 7 – 8 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral 
  Directors.  Funeral service will be Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 10 a.m. in 
  the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Jerry Browder officiating.  
  Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. 
  He is survived by his wife, Wanda Welch of Denton; daughter, Deborah Kay Clark 
  and husband, Mark of Denton; sisters, Bonnie Hollyfield of Fort Worth, Madelyn 
  Springfield of Springtown and Mary Frances Rosamond of Granbury; brother, 
  Thomas Welch of Azle; grandchildren, Stephen Clark, Stephanie Clark, Brandon 
  Clark and Michelle Welch Reed.  He is preceded in death by his parents;
