Old Slave Cemetery

Pilot Point, Denton County, Cemeteries of Texas
Submitted by Bob Leahy
Survey by Bob Leahy, Ray Savard, and Nina Savard, Dec 2008; previous surveys: Dec 23, 1975--Richard Stevens; Oct 1993--Phoebe Tarver; about 1996R.G. Milliken
Y in last column indicate marker found; N indicates burial listing found in older surveys Old Slave Cemetery is on private property and is not easily accessed; there is no road to it. Believed to be the final resting place of hundreds of souls, only a few dozen identifiable markers remain. There are many large pieces of sandstone and many rock-lined cairns in this cemetery. Death certificate for Martha Billingslea indicates that the cemetery may have once been known as St Johns Cemetery.1998 Article http://drbobl.tripod.com/OldSlaveCem.html
