Geraldine Mitchell Wright

ODESSA — Geraldine Mitchell Wright, 58, of Hamilton, passed away June 9, 2004, at her residence in Hamilton, TX. She was born December 20, 1945, to Grady and Bertha Mitchell in Alabama. She was the youngest daughter of five children. She moved to Odessa in 1950 and was married in 1960 to Johnny L. Wright. Soon after they were married, they moved to Oklahoma City for a short time then moved back to Odessa in 1974. She started to work for Dr. Corral. She worked for him for five years, then she went to Odessa Collage and got a degree in Drilling Technology and was the first female to work on a pulling unit or drilling rig. At the same time she was raising her four children and helped raise 12 other children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years; her parents; and two brothers. She is survived by two sons, Deyane Wright and wife, Joanne, of Odessa and Jeff Wright and wife, Jonna, of New Mexico; daughters, Kathy Wright of Hamilton and Mary Smith and husband, Greg, of Odessa; six grandchildren, Josh White, Jessica White, Rebecca Wright, Jennifer Armstrong, Leah and Zack Armstrong; three great-grandchildren, Emilie, Dyllon “Shorty” and Olivia; sisters, Janette Rodriguez of Odessa and Betty Mitchell of New Mexico; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Minister William Fikes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
