ODESSA — Helen Maxine Tacker passed away after a long and valiant struggle with emphysema on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at the Hospice House.
Maxine was born on Dec. 7, 1931, in Adamsville, Tenn., to Ester and Harmel Wilkins. She attended high school in Marked Tree, Ark., and business school in Little Rock, Ark. She worked in the cotton industry until she met the man she would marry.
On March 3, 1953, Maxine and George E. Tacker were married in Lepanto, Ark. They lived in Ypsilanti, Mich., for 15 years, moved to Marked Tree, Ark., then to Yazoo City, Miss. They settled in Odessa in 1974 where Maxine worked 15 years for Gibsons and 15 years as a Wal-Mart associate.
She was active in both Girl and Boy Scouting with her children and husband. She was a member of Parkview Church of Christ and a strong advocate for the Children’s Miracle Network.
She is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, George E. Tacker of Odessa; son, Robert E. Tacker and wife, Connie; daughters, Kay L. Warner and Debra Wheeler; brother, Joe R. Wilkins; grandchildren, Penny L. Warner, Brian and Katy Warner, Kristy Tacker, Lisa Tacker, Austin Tacker; and great-grandchild, Kade Carlile, all of Odessa.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at the Parkview Church of Christ. Charles Jones and Dennis Dillon will officiate.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice House, Odessa Christian School, the American Lung Association or American Heart Association.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the many caring hands at Medical Center Hospital, Dr. Dan Hendrickson, the compassionate staff of Hospice House, Dr. Sudhir Amaram and the multitude of friends and family who supported her these many years during her battles with heart and lung disease.
