ODESSA — Mary Ruth Snoddy, 84, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Findlay, Ohio, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Beard.
She was educated in Ohio and received her business degree from Findlay College. It was there she met her husband, Robert D. Snoddy. They were married for more than 62 years until her death.
Mary Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was secretary at Dowling Elementary for 17 years. She was active in her church and PTA. She was a former member of the Odessa Study Club, the Pilot Club International and Theta Mu Sorority.
She enjoyed family and church activities. She spent many years in the bleachers following the athletic careers of her husband, sons and grandchildren. She loved Asbury United Methodist Church and her Sunday school class. Mary Ruth enjoyed the Wednesday night dinners and programs at Asbury, along with the conversations with friends.
She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Snoddy, who was always proudly at her side. She had two sons, Robert Charles Snoddy of Lewisville and Thomas Beard Snoddy of Odessa; grandchildren, Shani Michelle Snoddy of San Angelo, Robert Walker Snoddy of Washington, D.C., Heather Leigh Snoddy of Odessa and Craig Whitson Snoddy of Odessa; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Mary Ruth’s funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Asbury United Methodist Church with her pastor Dave Dinneen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Wesley Sunday School Class. Pallbearers will be Steve Barron, John Bushman, Ragon Gilbert, Rodney Hurt, Terry Richey and Doug Shelton.
The family suggest memorials be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center.
