Sally Virginia Wright Gist

ODESSA — It’s a gift to be a teacher, to mold young hearts and minds;
To light a fire for knowledge and for fact of every kind,
Because it’s so important that our young ones learn what’s true,
There is an Angel who brings gratitude for the children taught by you!
Sally Virginia Wright Gist passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004. Sally was born on July 23, 1936, in Odessa, Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1954.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Eric Gist.
Sally is survived by her husband, John Gist; two daughters, Gina and Joni Gist of Odessa; a stepdaughter, Randy Gist of Odessa; one grandchild, Lauren Ashley Gist; mother, Maxine Wright of Odessa; sister, Sandra Schmitz and husband, Monroe, of Gardendale; a stepsister, Anona McCart of Midland; three stepbrothers, Tom Sherman of Midland, Ron Sherman of Sentinal, Okla., and Craig Wright of Las Cruces, N.M.
Sally always wanted to be a teacher and what a wonderful teacher she was. She began as a homebound teacher in Odessa in 1988 to students who were ill at home. She went beyond the call of duty and was always there for them night or day.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Curtis Brewer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
