Vernon Parish Cemeteries of LA

Samuel H. Brister, whom they help a ceremony for in 2004 is in the cemetery.. Should be a rather large stone or marker, attached is a photo from the ceremony. Samuel originally died around 1879, the homestead was right across the road from the cemetery. Samuel was the original owner of the property. He was married to Mary Nolen Brister. They settled the property in 1850.  This is the story told to David Brister by his Father about Samuel's Death. David is the Great Grandson of James Jacob.

"(My father told me that "the old man" died when a bunch of Jayhawkers came through.  Got mad at one of the bunch and hung the young boy in his front yard.  He got so up set that he had a stoke and died.  Daddy said that he and the boy were buried in the field across the road from the house.  The field that is now "Liberty" cemetery.  It has been renamed "Brister" cemetery.")

2nd, I believe Elizabeth Matilda Hall Brister is buried there, along with a number of infants .  John and Matilda were shown as married for 9 years prior to a living son's birth, I believe there may have been a number of still born or infant's that died and would be buried with or near their Mother.
Husband of Matilda was John H. Brister (son of Samuel & Mary Nolen Brister - brother of James Jacob Brister)

John  is buried in Drakes Fork, although his marker has not been found, I was told by Richard Austin that he knew that John was buried there, he had seen the marker in past years. Richard Austin was the brother of my Grandmother Charity N. Austin Brister.  Wife of Matt Brister.

Matt of course was the son of John H. and Matilda Hall Brister.

Matilda would have died around 1893-1894.
John H. Brister died around 1919 - 1920.
John and Matilda Hall Brister are my Great Grandparents.

3rd. The young man that was hung in Samuel's Front yard.   His name is unknown, unfortuanely he has been forgotten.. such a shame.

Thanks so much, Mary Lee
