Obituaries



Lora Dell Davis

Prude Cemetery, DeSota Parish, LA

Funeral services were held at Cedar Hill Baptist Church Saturday, June 10, 2006 at noon for Lora Dell Davis, 74, of Mansfield.

Interment followed in Prude Cemetery.

Family members and guests visited before and after the services at the church on Saturday.

Mrs. Davis was born September 27, 1932 and passed away June 2, 2006.

Rev. C. L. Bryant officiated assisted by Rev. Carl Washington and Rev. Roy Jones.

Lora Dell was preceded in death by her parents, Waymon and Mary Davis and three sisters, Juanita Coleman, Mary Lee Davis and Allie D. Johnson, and one brother, Hartfield Davis, one uncle, Hartfield Davis and one aunt, Gertrude Atkins.

She is survived by a brother, Waymon Davis, Jr., of Los Angeles, CA; one sister Rose (Eugene) Linnear of Shreveport, LA; seven God-children including Doris C. Rogers of Logansport, LA; Patricia Wilcott-White of Lake Wells, FL; Mary Jean Foster and Xavier Foster of Grand Cane, LA; Rev. Sylvan Clark of Shreveport, LA; Rev. Roy Jones and Jeff Terrell of Mansfield; a very special niece and nephew Inell and Lamar Webb, many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, along with the Cedar Hill Church family.

Active pallbearers included Dwayne Coleman, Eddie Foster, Johnny Hill, Robert Hill, Richard Johnson and Harry Willcott.

Honorary pallbearers included Charles Calvin, Dexter Davis, Waymon Davis, Jr., Curtis Johnson, Robert Johnson, Honorable Curtis McCoy, Ben Murray, Fletcher Carter, Joe Davis, Charles Johnson, James Johnson, Eugene Linnear, Terrence Mitchell, Reginald Thomas and Lamar Webb.

Lora Dell attended De Soto Parish schools and was employed for a period of time at Holly Farms. She then became a domestic servant for many years and worked for several families in De Soto Parish.

Lora Dell was baptized and followed the leadership of the late Rev. G. D. Jackson at Cedar Hill Baptist Church. She served the ministry faithfully by singing in the choir and serving on the Pastor’s Aid Committee. She loved Cedar Hill Baptist Church dearly and was very active until her health began to fail. She always acknowledged her love for the Lord and knew that it was His grace and mercy that kept her.
