The Shreveport Times Monday, January 30, 2006 Obituaries Mrs. Mary Sydney Huson Amy Highland Cemetery, Mansfield, LA MANSFIELD, LA- Mrs. Mary Sdney Amy passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Huson Hill, the family home in which she was born on December 3, 1912 to prominent DeSoto Parish family Senator Charles B. and Mrs. Willie May Thornton Huson. After graduating from Mansfield High School, she attended Bellhaven College in Mississippi where she became a member of Delta Zeta sorority. Descended from pioneer DeSoto Parish families Huson, Cale and Pegues, Mrs. Amy was always an avid student of Southern history, especially Confederate history and she truly loved the South. A longtime active member of the Daughters of American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, she had been the Poet Laureate of the Louisiana division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. At the time of her death, Mrs. Amy was the oldest member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church where her family helped found and build as well as where she had been christened and married. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, infant Henry Charles Huson and Whitfield T. Huson, and her grandson, Blake Amy. She is survived by her sons, Charles B. Amie, William C. Amy and Eldridge W. Amy, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 30, 2006, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. She will lie in state from 9 until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31st at the Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Mansfield. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. in the church with Father Guy Mackey officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in the Huson, Cale family plot in Mansfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Miller, Bill Calvert, Ronnie Valentine, Tommy Calhoun, Alan Yarbrough, Scott Brown, Judson Rives and Williams Huckabay. Honorary pallbearers are Wendell Hawkins, O. Delton Harrison, Jr., Riemer Calhoun, Jr., Dr. Benjamin Leggio, Dr. Walter W. Platt, Dr. Jack L. Grindle, Kermie Valentine, Leonard Valentine and Charles Christian. The family extends special thanks to Mrs. Amy's faithful and devoted caregivers, Katie Byrd, Florence James and Merlene Woods.
