The Shreveport Times Obituaries Thursday, September 22, 2005 James Marvin Robbins Nov. 26, 1925 - Sept. 21, 2005 OXFORD, LA - James Marvin Robbins, of Oxford, Louisiana, passed from this life on September 21, 2005 at the age of 79 from cancer. He is survived by Virginia "Chena" Rambin Robbins, his wife of 56 years, their ten children: Cecilia Deramus, Andrew Robbins and wife, Cheryl, Roseanne Morris, Gay Blackmon and husband, Harlon; John Robbins, Daymon Robbins, Theresa VanCamp, Cathy Roy and husband James, Laura Robbins, and Belinda Moore. He is also survived by twenty one grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Roderick Robbins of Mansfield, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield with Rev. Doris Sheppard from the First United Methodist Church in Pelican, La. officiating. The service will be followed by a military burial at the cemetery in Oxford, which borders the home and land where he lived for almost 50 years. Pallbearers will be six of his grandsons: Thomas Zimmerman, Robert Deramus, Chris McKinnon, Jonathan Allums, Justin Roy, and Luke Roy with his nephews: Stuart Smith, Lance Cole, Stephen Rambin, Joe Rambin, Douglas Seger and son-in-law, Harlon Blackmon serving as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Robbins was born to Albert and Minnie Robbins in Pelican, Louisiana and joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 in support of our country during World War II. He served on the USS Longshaw as a Radio Technician in the American area, as well as in the Asiatic Pacific, where he participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. After the end of the war, he graduated from Draughan Business School, and also attended welding school, and was employed as a combination welder, working with companies to bring the first natural gas to the Southeastern United States. Following that, he returned to DeSoto Parish where he resided for the remainder of his life, and worked at Nabors Trailers for 20 years. Mr. Robbins particularly enjoyed working with wood and was an excellent carpenter, developing a great talent for rebuilding and refinishing antiques. Having a lifelong love of fishing and gardening, he generously shared the fruits of these passions with not just his family, but also his community, often bringing the elderly and handicapped fresh fish, fruits and vegetables.
