The Shreveport Times Monday, November 14, 2005 Velma Whitlock Pyle Pollard Cemetery, Lula, DeSoto Parish, LA MANSFIELD, LA - Services for Mrs. Velma Whitlock Pyle, of Mansfield, LA will be held at Rose-Neath Mansfield Chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2005. Burial will be in Pollard Cemetery in Lula Community. Mrs. Pyle died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Welch, her pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where Mrs. Pyle's membership is recorded and Rev. Bob Miller, a former pastor. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. Mrs. Pyle was born June 22, 1912 in Weatherford, Texas to John Benjamin Whitlock and Nancy Louise Rogers Whitlock. In her early childhood days her parents and siblings traveled to Louisiana by covered wagon to find rich farmland. She was very proud of her heritage of her childhood days. The John Whitlock siblings were grandchildren of the late Dr. William Acey Whitlock. While in Louisiana, she met her husband of 57 years, Allen Pyle. Mrs. Pyle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly. She voiced many prayers for her family. Mrs. Pyle was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was a former member of Southside Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Alfred Mitchell for many years. Mrs. Pyle was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Pyle; parents, John and Nancy Louise Whitlock; two sisters, Mable English, Mamie Daniels; three brothers, Melvin, Raymond and Richard Whitlock. Mrs. Pyle is survived by one daughter, Verna Mae Pyle Flanagan and her husband, Brady of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Patrice "Patti" Flanagan of Houston, Texas; Denise "Denni" Flanagan Bittner and her husband David of Spring, Texas; two great-grandchilddren Matthew Allen Bittner and Andrew Christian Bittner of Spring, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews and her friends in Christ. Pallbearers will be her deacons Marvin Melton, Joe Sloan, Marvin Roberts and family members, Joseph Salley, C.W. Salley, Carlos Ray Whitlock and Roy Daniels. The family would like to thank all the medical professionals, both doctors, nurses and certified nursing assistants at Christus Schumpert Medical Center and Doctors Hospital who had a part in caring for her during her illness.
