The Shreveport Times Obituaries Monday, April 04, 2005 Shelton " Sammy" Rogers O E Price Cemetery, Logansport, DeSoto Pr., LA LOGANSPORT, LA - Funeral services for Retired Fire Captain Shelton "Sammy" Rogers, 61, of Logansport, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport, LA. Bro. Jackie Meeks and Bro. Larry Andrews will be officiating. Burial follows at O.E. Price Cemetery in Logansport. Visitation will be held Monday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m at Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Mr. Rogers passed away at the Grace Home in Shreveport on April 2, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Rogers was born June 26, 1943 to Shelton S. Rogers and Lois Steele Rogers. He joined the Army in November 1962 as an Army Paratrooper Specialist 4. After he completed his military service in January 1967, he joined the Shreveport Fire Department on January 1, 1968. He made Captain in 1982 and retired from the department in 1995. Mr. Rogers was known around the fire department as "Super Sport". Mr. Rogers married Reba Brown on November 23, 1968 in Logan, TX. They made their home in Logansport, LA and had three children. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Rogers is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Shelton Rogers and Lois Rogers Norwood; his daughter, Lori Rogers; and his father-in-law, Mr. Earl Brown. He is survived by his wife, Reba Rogers; one son, Timothy Rogers, Sr. and wife Kelly, all of Logansport; one daughter, Sharman Ballard and husband C.L. of Tenaha, TX; 8 grandchildren, Timothy, Trepton and Kiley Rogers of Logansport, Rachel and Samantha Parker of Tenaha, Ryan Ballard of Tenaha, Kristin and Traci Ballard of Haughton, LA, one sister, Janice Pierce and husband Don of Logansport, three brothers, Thomas Rogers and wife Margaret of Kilgore, TX, Charles Rogers of Athens, AL, Clay Rogers of Tyler, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a lot of friends. Pallbearers are John Rogers, Richard Busbey, Glen Bordner, Jarrod Johnson, Jason Johnson and Mike Lawson.
