Obituaries The Shreveport Times Saturday, Feb 19, 2005 Frances Hester Seamans Sly Mansfield Cemetery, DeSoto Parish, LA HAVERFORD, PA - Frances Hester Seamans Sly, 88, of Haverford, PA, and formerly a long-time resident of Mansfield, LA, died on Friday, February 18, 2005. She was born on December 24, 1916 in McGehee, AR to Isaac Montgomery Seamans and Frances Roberta Brown Seamans. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John Loflin Sly; two sisters, Beatrice Seamans and Annie Hester Seamans, and one brother, Isaac Montgomery Seamans, Jr. Mrs. Sly was a member of a pioneer Hester family of Woodville and Terry, MS. She was a graduate of St. Katherine's Episcopal School in Bolivar, TN. She served in World War II as a First Lieutenant in the Women's Army Corps. She was an active member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Mansfield, LA, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, The Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Colonists, and the DeSoto Department Club. She was also a charter member of the DeSoto Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by one daughter, Christine Sly Bartholomew and husband Joseph of Austin, TX; one son, John Loflin Sly, Jr. and wife Anne of St. Davids, PA; one grandson, John Loflin Sly, III of Parkesburg, PA; four nephews, Ike Seamans of Miami, FL, The Rev. Powell S. Hall of Hermitage, TN, Dr. H. Gaston Hall of KeniIworth, England, and John W. Hall of Metairie, LA. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Mansfield, LA with Fr. Guy Mackey and The Rev. Gene Finnell officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mansfield Cemetery. Pallbearers are William E. Calvert, C. AIfred Flanders, Jr., G.B. Hall, III, Green Rives, Jr., Lawrence S. Silver, and John L. Sly, III. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Walter C. Platt and Charlie F. Powell. The family will receive visitors at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield on Sunday, February 20 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Holly Assisted Living staff at the Quadrangle for their love and special care of Hester during here time as a resident there.
