The Shreveport Times Obituaries James Thomas Nesbitt Keatchie Cemetery, Keatchie, DeSoto, LA HOUSTON, TX - James T. (Jim) Nesbitt, 91, of Houston Texas died in the hospital in Shreveport, July 30, 2005, after a brief illness. Years ago Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber F. and Betty S. Nesbitt, and by his sister, Janet Joy. More recently he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Herrera Thompson and his wife of 57 years, Clara Matthews Nesbitt. He is survived by his son, Tom Nesbitt, his daughter-in-law, Mary Forrester Nesbitt of Keatchie, LA and his three grandchildren; Tanya Herrera of Mountain View, CA, J. T. Nesbitt III of New Orleans and Rebecca M. Nesbitt of Shreveport. Jim was born in Memphis, TN in 1914 and lived in several Texas cities in his childhood years. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1937 with BA and LLB (Law) degrees. Before WW II, he practiced law in Laredo, Texas where he met and married Clara in 1942. He was drafted into the Army and later graduated from OCS. He served in the European Theatre having landed on Normandy Beach about a week after D-Day. He also saw action in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge. He marched into Paris on the day it was liberated. After the war, he returned to Laredo and formed the law firm of Mann and Nesbitt that was active for nine years. In 1954, Jim accepted a position as Chief American Counsel for Mobil de Venezuela and lived in Caracas. With Mobil he later moved to New York City, Shreveport, LA and Houston, TX. He retired from Mobil in 1976 and practiced law in private practice in Houston until 1988. He was a member of the Houston and the Texas Bar Associations. For over 30 years he was an active member of the Westminster United Methodist Church of Houston. In spirit and by example he was a ranking member of the "Greatest Generation" and he will be greatly missed. Graveside services will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 2nd at Keatchie Cemetery With Rev. Bryan McDowell officiating.
