The Shreveport Times Wednesday, September 07, 2005 Herb Goins Highland Cemetery, Mansfield, DeSoto, LA MANSFIELD, LA - Funeral services for Herb Goins, 67, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2005 at First Baptist Church Mansfield. Officiating will be Dr. William Crosby, Bro. Joe Waggener, Bro. Thumper Miller, and Dr. Calvin Phelps. Interment to follow at Highland Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2005. Mr. Goins passed away September 3, 2005 in Shreveport, LA. He was born in Lotus, LA and was a resident of Mansfield, LA for 42 years. After graduating high school and attending college, Mr. Goins proudly served his country in the armed forces for 4 years. Subsequently he was employed with Nabors Trailer for 17 years and retired from Lucent Technologies in 2000 after 22 years of faithful service as a safety advisor. Before retirement, in 1998 he began his own business, HLG Incorporated. He also became a lifetime member of the Handyman Club of America. Through his business Mr. Goins proudly served his community and Lord with excellence. Throughout his lifetime Mr. Goins was known to be a faithful servant and follower of Christ. He was a devoted husband for 45 years, a loving father and grandfather as well as a loyal friend. He served the body of Christ most notably at First Baptist Church in Mansfield, LA. It was here that he served as chairman of the deacons for two separate tenures and helped to establish and promote the Radio and Television Ministry. He also served in the youth and children's programs for over 35 years. His mission was to serve others and his love for people knew no age barriers. Mr. Goins will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community. To God be the Glory as He welcomes His servant home. Mr. Goins was preceded in death by his father, Pullman Goins and mother, Alice Goins; sister, Viletta Goins Ricks, and brother, Doyle Goins. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Goins; son, Christopher Goins; daughter, Lori Powers and husband, Michael; granddaughter, Cameron Powers; sisters, Doris Hagan and husband Joe, Melba McLendon and husband Leon, Peggy Ramsey, Barbara Addison, and Bonnie Johnson and husband Willard. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church.
