Obituaries The Shreveport Times Friday, July 22, 2005 Bettie Grace Williams Sachs Grand Cane Cemetery, Grand Cane, DeSoto, LA HOUSTON, TX - Bettie Grace Williams Sachs, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2005 after a battle with COPD and cardiovascular disease. "Please don't smoke." Memorial Services will be held at the Grand Cane Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2005, with interment to follow at Grand Cane Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home, 7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, LA 71115. Bettie has been living in Houston since 1980, was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 2, 1927 and was raised while she traveled with her father as he constructed various pipelines including the "Big Inch-Little Inch" War Emergency Pipeline. Her travels with her father, mother and family took here to various places including Philadelphia, Cincinnati and Caracas, Venezuela. The family eventually returned to Shreveport/Grand Cane, Louisiana to the Williams family home place. Bettie is survived by her sister, Carolyn Werner and husband John of Lufkin, Texas; her daughter, Sharman Burgess and husband Graham of Shreveport, Louisiana; and her daughter, Linda Sullivan and husband Tom of Houston, Texas. Bettie's other immediate surviving relations include: Carolyn and John's son, Pete and wife, Paula and their children: Rebecca and John Ryan; Sharman and Graham's children Lauren, Brandi and Kenny and Lauren's son, Walker; and Linda and Tom's children: Heather and Kirk and Heather's children: Gaby and Hunter. In the past few years Bettie was particularly charmed by her 5 year old great grandchild, Gaby who affectionately referred to her as "Bettie Boop". Preceding Bettie in death were her beloved parents: Joe Murray and Grace Williams and brothers: Charles, Jack and Dr. Joe Williams. Charles is survived by wife, Betty of Dodson, Louisiana and their children: Charles, Jackie, Steve and Jennifer. Jack is survived by wife, Julia of Houston and daughter, Carol. Dr. Joe is survived by sons: Pastor Joe of Houston and Jeffrey of Raleigh, NC. Pastor Joe's daughters: Christine and Julie Williams and their mother, Nancy Travis of Houston were a special pleasure to Bettie for much of here life. Bettie reveled in seeing Pastor Joe the rebel child grow into the fine man of God he is today. Bettie attended Friends' Central School near Philadelphia, PA and graduated from Anderson Township H.S. near Cincinnati, OH in 1945. She moved on to Barmore Finishing School in New York, Emerson Literary School and Penn State University. Initially she worked as an Office Manager for various family ventures and moved on to become an experienced and much respected Travel Agent from which she retired. Bettie was an accomplished cook and it is has been said by acquaintance, friend and family alike that when ever you visited her, whether planned or unannounced, you better bring an appetite. Betty cherished the role of caretaker. Whether it was her father and mother in there declining years or here nephew, Pastor Joe after his father's early passing or her grandchildren: Heather and Kirk. Bettie was a true "southern lady" and she will be deeply missed by all that were blessed to know her.
