Murray Pratt Friendship Cemetery, Grand Cane, DeSoto Parish, LA SHREVEPORT, LA - LaVerne passed away May 18, on her birthday, after a brief illness. Visitation was held Monday night, May 23, 2005, at Winnfield Funeral Home from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, Grand Cane, LA. LaVerne served as church pianist for the following churches, all located in DeSoto Parish: Friendship B.C., Union Mission B.C., Morning Glory B.C., Shiloh B. C., and St. Peter B.C. She taught Sunday School, and exercised Christian counseling to anyone who was in need. She was always sharing rather than receiving. She knew the best way to serve God was by serving her fellow man. LaVerne graduated from DeSoto Parish Training School of Mansfield in 1956. She received her Bachelor's of Science degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. She taught in the public school system of Caddo Parish and retired after teaching for 20 - plus years. She is survived by four sisters, Artrice Whittaker (Phillip) of Houston, TX, Grace Adams (Edward) of Van Buren, AR, Robert Mae Johnson of Los Angeles, CA, Doris Malone of Shreveport, a very special God- daughter and son- Gloria Nell and Steven Wiggins; and many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
