Mrs. Nellie K. Dyson

STONEWALL, LA- Nellie K. Dyson walked into the open arms of her Savior on August 16, 2008 after serving on this earth for 78 years. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on August 18th at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport. Services will be held at Salem Baptist Church in Stonewall on August 19th at 11:00 a.m.

Nell was born in Frierson, Louisiana in June of 1930 to Claude B. Kennedy, Sr. and Amanda Lea Roach Kennedy. She lived in Frierson until her marriage to Bobby H. Dyson, Sr. at which time she moved to Stonewall, Louisiana. She was a loving wife to Bobby for 58 years and they were the parents of two sons, Bob and Barry Dyson. She and Bobby owned a small business in Stonewall for many years. Then she opened a small hamburger and malt shop inside their business and it quickly became known as the place to get a great hamburger and malt, as well as a gathering place to meet old and new friends alike.

The Mansfield Road expansion project forced the closure of their business and Nell went to work for the CPA Accounting Firm of Thrailkill and Thrailkill until her retirement. She then filled her time with service to her Lord and to her church as an active member in Salem Baptist Church at Stonewall for 58 years and the wife of a deacon for many of those years. When she was not busy doing this, you could find her hard at work in her yard full of beautiful flowers or in the vegetable garden.

Her son, Bobby H. Dyson, Jr, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Dyson, Sr., and son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Shirley Dyson, granddaughter, Jennifer Dyson, brother and sister-in-law, C.B and Robbie Kennedy, and sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Harold Austin. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and devoted friends.

She was a loving "Mimi" to her granddaughter, Jennifer. Beyond her roles as wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Nellie Katherine Kennedy Dyson was known as a friend to those who crossed her path. Many hearts have been warmed by her touch and generosity, and many stomachs warmed by her home cooked meals. She will be sorely missed by all.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Dewil, George Pugh, Pat McLain, Willie J. Boone, Clay McGee, Wayne Parham and Pat Loftus.

Honorary pallbearers are Curtis McCune, Jr. and deacons of Salem Baptist Church.

The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Pierre Blanchard and Vickie Burnett and Dr. Scott Wiggins, who cared for her for many years. Also many thanks to the physicians of the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center, especially to Dr. Matthew (Chip) McDonald and his nurse Melanie for their care during the past year in her courageous battler with cancer.

In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to Salem Baptist Church, Stonewall, LA, Frierson Baptist Church in Frierson, LA, or to the American Cancer Society. Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside Chapel 687-1256
