Marion Eugene "Gene" Copeland

MANSFIELD, LA- Marion Eugene "Gene" Copeland died on August 12, 2008 in Mansfield, La from a short illness. Born in Mansfield on June 23, 1940, he was raised in Naborton, La, where he was affectionately known as to everyone as "Man." In fact, some called him by that name all his life.

Gene's parents were the late Nile Bailey Copeland and Marian Smith Copeland Cooper. Also preceding him in death were brothers, Nile, Johnny and Jerry Copeland. Surviving siblings are Douglas Copeland of Chesapeake, Virginia and Marcia Calhoun and her husband, Riemer of Mansfield, La. Gene is survived by one aunt, Lena Mae McClung of Shreveport, La and numerous cousins. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Theo Copeland of Houston, TX, Marguerite Copeland of Shreveport, La and Joanne Copeland of Shreveport, La, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, their children and grandchildren.

Gene had returned to live in Naborton after his career as a Mud Engineer took him to live in foreign countries. He will be remembered for the variety of fascinating stories of his adventurous life that he was always willing to share.

A member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mansfield, La, Gene exemplified the scripture that says a man who has many friends must show himself friendly. His friendly, outgoing nature attracted a host of friends who are left to mourn his death. One long-time friends said last week that she loved to talk to Gene because "he just makes me happy."

Memorial services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, 15937 Highway 175 in Mansfield, La at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Denis Kamberov for his professional help and personal support during Gene's illness. We are also grateful to Mary Young and Brigette Young for their loving attention to Gene during his last days and hours. Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield Chapel 318-872-4660
