Marie Pritchard Walker (Frosty)

December 9, 1913 - June 28, 2008

Family Cemetery, Old Union BC, Benson

Marie was born in Bloomberg, Texas on December 9, 1913, to Annie Manor Pritchard and Monroe Pritchard. She grew up in Oil City, Louisiana and married George Edward Walker in 1934. She raised two children, Donald Walker and Carole Walker Eitzen.

Marie was fondly called "Frosty" by all of her family and close friends. She was loving, generous and caring for anyone who happened to cross her path. Her table always had enough food to feed anyone who happened to stop by.

Marie was never a leader but always stepped up to the plate to do anything that she was asked. In South Louisiana when asked to teach a typing course in the school system, she was there; when putting down roots in Baytown after years of following the oil patch Marie sold "piece goods" at J. C. Penney's; worked as a bookkeeper at Carl Young Plumbing Company; and often helped fashion a prom dress or one for a special occasion for her daughter or a daughter's friend.

Marie moved to New Mexico shortly after the death of "the love of her life" and was embraced by many in the Albuquerque, Jemez Springs and Santa Fe areas.

Marie was an inspiration to Open Hands Adult Day Care in Santa Fe setting an example of class and inspiration to those around her. She helped others who were there to "look better" and "feel better" with nothing more than by example. Her quiet, gentle demeanor spoke volumes.

Marie is mother, grandmother and friend to Donald and Billie Walker of Jemez Springs, NM; Carole Walker Eitzen and Dr. Harold Eitzen of Santa Fe, NM; Grandchildren: Marcie Walker, Danny & Jan Walker of Port Arthur, Texas, Mike Walker; Kari Kelley of Clear Lake Shores, Texas, Kurtis Kelley of Santa Fe, NM, Eric and Melissa Eitzen of Clear Lake City, Texas, and Steve and Rebecca Eitzen of El Cajon, CA. She is Great Grandmother to 10. Nieces & nephews include Linda Rhea, Jerry Mayfield, Vernon Pritchard, H. D. Reddin, Bill Morrison, Richard Morrison and Alice Faye Reddin Doolin.

Marie will be laid to rest at the family cemetery at Old Union Baptist Church in Benson, LA, with a graveside service on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 10:00 am. Viewing at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2008.

She was a member of the Goose Creek Chapter of the Eastern Star in Baytown, Texas and the First Baptist Church of Broaddus, Texas.

A memorial celebration of Marie's life will be held in Clear Lake Shores, TX on Friday, July 4, 2008 at the home of her granddaughter, Kari Kelley. You may contact Kari at 281-334-1199 for time and directions.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in the memory of Marie "Frosty" Walker to the American Cancer Society or the Santa Fe Symphony at 505-983-3530 would be greatly appreciated. Happy Trails, Frosty!
