History of Mineola City Cemetery

Wood Co. Cemeteries of TX

Submitted by Willa Thompson

Information on the  list of burials were derived from a survey done by Adele and A.N. Vickery, Jr., and George and Ida Marie Turner and their daughter and son, Lisa and Stephen, in 1970.  Efforts are being made to list the deaths since that date.

The Cemetery property does not belong to the city of Mineola.  It was owned by the Reeves family, with individual lots deeded as they were purchased for burial plots.

The Mineola City Negro Cemetery joins on the west and is listed separately.

It is reported “The first woman buried here was Emiley Wigley in 1876”  Also, there are three children whose death dates are prior to this marker.    Interestingly, the oldest death date was for a child named Mineola P. Dockery, daughter of A.J. and S.A. Dockery.  Death date September 29, 1874.

This information has been checked and re-checked, but as any published material, one should rely on originals, where possible.
