This cemetery is located 1/2 mile east of the town site of Chesterville (CR 262). The land is owned by the Chesterville Cemetery Association. The survey and information was done by Alice Anderson Schmidt and Nancy Anderson in 1990. Mrs. Ruth Anderson and Mrs. Emma Tubbs Thomas, and family members of those buried in the cemetery gave the information needed. A brief history of the cemetery follows.
The oldest grave is that of Andrew Anderson, dated March of 1898. The cemetery was opened at this time. John Lindertolm (sp?), land promoter and developer of the area gave the land - one acre at first and later before selling his interests here and leaving the area a second acre was added. The deed to this 2-acre plot is recorded in Wharton, Texas in 1909. Almost all graves shown as unmarked are shown on the old cemetery plat.
The Chesterville Cemetery Association was organized in 1961 and is still active as of 1990. The 1990 president is Greg Clark of Sugarland. Lonnie Sommerlatte is treasurer and Sam Davidson and George Clark are 2 of the board members.
