Troup Banner, Troup TX: December 27, 1923 R.C. Norman Dead The Funeral services and interment of R.C. Norman, who died at 7:30 Sunday morning at his home in Bell Community, were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Old Knoxville Cemetery, Rev. Evans Thompson officiating. Death followed a period of long and painful illness. At the time of his demise, Mr. Norman was some months past 77 years old. At an early age deceased became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and had lived an exemplary life of Christian devotion to duty and service. Mr. Norman was one of the last survivors among early settlers at Old Knoxville, at one time in pioneer days, a well-known and prosperous east Texas town. Deceased is survived by his wife, four: sons; Arthur, Rev. D.B., Wilmer and Crockett Norman, and one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ragsdale of Jacksonville, all of whom were present with other relatives and friends at the time death came. Dick Norman, as all of his old neighbors lovingly called him, was the last of the older set of a very large family of pioneers in North Cherokee. The county never had a better citizen. he was a plain, honest man, a neighbor with guile, a citizen who really loved his fellowman. The noble influences of his life yet remain, and will for a long time, as a rich heritage to his family and his neighborhood.
