Troup Banner, Troup TX: January 6, 1927 MRS. J.B. RUCKER OF TROUP DIED MONDAY P.M. Mrs. J.B. Rucker, 73 years old, pioneer resident of Troup, died at the family home here early Monday morning. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Troup Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Fount Wallace, assisted by Rev. C.L. Williams. Burial was at the Rucker cemetery. Mrs. Rucker is survived by four sons, W.L. Rucker, J.T. Rucker, Grover Rucker and J.S. Rucker, all of Troup; and two daughters Jesse Overton of Troup and Mrs. Clara Holcomb of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Mrs. Rucker's husband, J.B. Rucker, died January 25, 1925. Two daughters and one son are deceased. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral services included Mrs. B.F. Hammonds, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stafford and Mrs. S.M. Johnston, all of Dallas. A large crowd of Troup people attended the funeral services, attesting the high esteem held for her here. A foster son Bill Thompson of Fort Worth, was unable to be here for the funeral, as he did not reach Troup until Tuesday night. Mrs. Rucker was born Miss Margaret Fox April 13, 1853 at Old Knoxville in Cherokee County. She was married to J.B. Rucker December 12, 1872. Mr. and Mrs. Rucker lived at Troup and near Troup during all of their lifetimes. Both were members of the Baptist Church here, being among the first to unite with the church soon after its organization here. They were foremost in Christian work in the town and community. Their Christian characters, beautified in lives of generous, unselfish service to others, endeared them to multitudes of people.
