Corinth Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery

The cemetery at Corinth Primitive Baptist Church was surveyed and transcribed in the 98 degree heat of August 7, 2009, by Bob Britnell. (misterbob@suddenlink.net)

DIRECTIONS: from the junction of US96 and SR21, go east through San Augustine. Just past the school, turn left on SR147, then right on FM353 (Patroon St.) Go about 3 miles; you will see the old, almost derelict, church on the left, up a slight hill. If you get to the White Rock Baptist Church, you went too far.

This old church has particular meaning to me: my maternal grandfather, Elder Henry Abner Stringer, ("Elder Ab") preached on occasion at this church. The church, organized in 1904, is a typical Primitive Baptist building; rough planks, single wall construction, open to the roof, with no thought to comfort. It is in extremely poor condition and may not stand for many more years. The cemetery is well-tended and still serves the White Rock Community. A granite marker at the gate gives some organizational information on the church.
