R.L. Clewis Dies Sunday
R.L. Clewis, 67, pioneer citizen of Rains County, died at his home in the Willow Springs community Sunday afternoon about 5 o'clock Aug 13. He had been in ill health for several years. Mr. Clewis was born in Van Zandt County and moved to this county when a small child. He had lived where he died for over 50 years, and had acquired large land holdings in the section where he resided. Mr. Clewis was a member of the Church of Christ, having joined over 30 years ago. Services were conducted at the grave by the Rev. Gayle Oler, pastor of the Church of Christ, before a large gathering who had come to pay their last respects to this good man. Burial was made in the family cemetery several hundred yards from his home. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. R.L. Clewis, three sons, William, Earnest and Jess Clewis; two daughters, Mrs. Ben Arnold and Mrs. Max Orsborn; several grandchildren and one great grandchild. The Leader would offer its sympathy to the family in their hour of sorrow.
