In Memory of Grandmother Bruce
Mrs. Mildinia E. (Lacey) Bruce was born August 21, 1842, in Louisiana, died March 14, 1933, living 90 years, 6 months and 21 days. She was making her home with her son -. L. Bruce of the Daugherty community at the time of her death. Mildinia E. Lacey was married to ---- Bruce March 4, 1860, to this union 7 children were born, five survive, namely: Mrs. Julia Spinks. A.L. Bruce, Emory, Texas; R.E. Bruce, Blossom, Texas. C.E. Bruce, Avery, Texas and Mrs. Martha Kitledin, St. Louis, and one stepson, Glen Bruce….Grandma Bruce (as she was called) was converted and joined the Baptist church at the age of 14. She was a true Christian and a devoted mother and grandmother. She always liked to talk about the Bible. She was baptized and married by her father. Grandmother Bruce came to Texas in the year of 1893  having lived in several different counties in the Northeastern part of Texas since that time, her husband having died several years ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.M. Martin of Emory, at the Daugherty Baptist church. Her remains were laid to rest in the Daugherty cemetery Wednesday afternoon March 15, 1933. She is survived by 5 children, 25 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her death. How we miss her words cannot express, but we know she is blooming in Heaven and some day we shall meet her again.---written by Katie Bruce
