Lee Robertson Killed by John Shipley

Lee Robertson was shot and killed between 7:30 and 8 o'clock last Friday in the home of John Shipley in Bethlehem community, Mr. Shipley doing the shooting.  Two shots were fired from a double barrel shot gun, one shot taking effect in the breast just in front of the left arm, producing death almost instantly and the other shot going wild.  Mr. Shipley was the father-in-law of Mr. Robertson and the latter and his wife who were on their way to Ginger, had stopped to see how Mr. Shipley was getting along.  Mr. Shipley had been sick two to three months, but had been able to be around for several weeks though not able to work.  Mr. Shipley is 73 years of age and Mr. Robertson was 45.  The tragedy was as shocking as it was unexpected by the two families, their relatives and friends throughout the county.  Mr. Shipley had been a resident of the county for nearly 50 years and Mr. Robertson most of his life.  Funeral services were conducted at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery Sunday afternoon by Rev. Watson of Ginger and Rev. Parkins of Greenville and it was estimated to be the largest crowd present that ever assembled in that part of the county.
