'Bones' Hampton

WOLFE CITY - William Raymond"Bones" Hampton, 92, of Wolfe City died Monday at Smith Nursing Home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Wolfe City with Rev. Robert Renfro and Rev. Kevin Mitchell. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

The son of S.F. and Alice Lindsey Hampton, he was born Oct. 13, 1906 in Westminster. He married Lady Geraldine Gilmer on Dec. 9, 1938 in Greenville.

Mr. Hampton served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retail merchant for 60 years in Wolfe City.

Mr. Hampton served as church treasurer at First Baptist Church for several years. He was a charter member of the Business Men's Sunday School class, a life member of Blue Lodge Excelsior 505 AF&AM and served on the board of directors for Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of Wolfe City; a brother, Other Hampton of Wylie and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Diane Hampton and four brothers.

Pallbearers are J.T. Woodruff, M.W. McWhirter, Dwight Gardner, Steve Stidham, Allen Thomason and Reuben Milton.

Honorary pallbearers are E.M. Howard, Howard Davis, W.A. Christian, R.C. Lewis, B.W. Clayton, Bobby Owens, C.D. Giddiens, James Nelson, Paul Roundtree, Dillard Wilkerson, Sidney Wasson, Howard Burnes and the Business Men's Sunday School class.
