Ernest Compton

WOLFE CITY - Ernest A. Compton, 95, of Dallas died Saturday at his home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Bagley officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Mr. Compton was born Nov. 8, 1903, in White Rock; the son of William Cherman and Mary Simmons Compton. He married Cletta Woodruff on N.ov. 23, 1923, in Wolfe City.

Mr. Compton was retired from the auto salvage business and was a member of the Honey Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Brenda Compton of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Jessie Compton of Dallas; grandchildren, Mark Compton of Dallas, Deborah Gillis of Quinlan, Pat Conger of Rowlett, Karen Courville of Shallowater, Lisa Searles of Forney, Lori Hoskins of Galveston and Brent Compton; 23 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1972; son, Al Compton, in 1982; and daughter, Leta Conger, in 1996.

Pallbearers are Ed Gillis, Tim Gillis, Steve Gillis, Mac Compton, Forest Courville, Nathan McGough and Arron Conger.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
