Lawanda Johnson, 84, of Greenville died June 29, 2006, at a local nursing home. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. today at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Caddo Mills. Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  She was born on March 6, 1922, daughter of Elbert F. and Rheata Cannon Allen. She married Roy Edward Johnson in 1952 in Greenville. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and James Handley of Campbell; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Janet Johnson of Greenville; grandchildren Lynne and Paul Divita of Rockwall, Jeff and Alison Handley of Fort Worth, and Melanie D’Ann Johnson of Arkansas; great-grandchildren Tricia and Nicole Divita of Rockwall; a nephew, Allen and Char Crittenden of Billings, Mont.; and a niece, Mary Nell Bottoroff of Oregon.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; and a sister, Margia Allen Ellis.

GAINESVILLE — Buena Vesta Dulaney Arey, 101, of Floyd died Sept. 11, 2006, at Park Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Caddo Mills Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville. Dr. Bart Barber will officiate.  The daughter of Charlie and Belva Catherine Gilley Dulaney, she was born Jan. 13, 1905, near Stone Gap in Scott County, Va. She was married to Elbert Lee Arey on Dec. 13, 1923, in Hunt County. She attended schools in Hunt County.   Mrs. Arey was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband operating a farm. She later operated a grocery store-service station for a number of years in Floyd.   Mrs. Arey was a member of the First Baptist Church in Farmersville and of the Garden Club. She enjoyed entertaining her friends.  Survivors are a daughter, Vesta Lee Arey Smartt of Grand Prairie; a son, Bobby Arey of Garland; sisters Dorothy Ray of Greenville and Imogene Longbothom, Willy Terry and Mary Guy, all of Baytown; a brother, Alvin Glasscock of Bovina; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Walter Burt Arey; and two grandchildren.  Pallbearers are Kenni Smartt, Blair Brown, Addison Puckett, Mark Ratterree, Chris Colbert, Steve Arey and David Williams.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Farmersville.  Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Farmersville.

Gertrude Jennings Michie, 89, died Oct. 14, 2006, in Greenville. Services are at 10 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. William Benner will officiate. Burial follows at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.  Mrs. Michie was born June 17, 1917, in Paducah, daughter of William Peter and Martha Era Cooke Jennings. She graduated from Paducah High School in 1934 and attended West Texas State Teachers College.  Mrs. Michie worked as a beautician in Denton and Paducah. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville.  In 1942 she was married to Robert L. Michie of Josephine. After he had served five years in the Army Air Force during World War II, they settled in Josephine and were cotton farmers. They moved to Greenville in 1970.  Surviving are her daughter-in-law Kimberly Michie and twin grandchildren Kelly and Kyle Michie of Broomfield, Colo., and a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Kelly B. Michie and Philip L. Michie; sisters Abbie Chapman, Mildred Brown and Maggie Lee Estes; and two brothers, Robert C. Jennings and W.P. Bill Jennings Jr. Pallbearers are Charlie Baucom, Don Cordes, J.L. Green, Jim Kusewitt, Ed McMeans and Michael Taylor.

GARLAND — Mildred Ellen Farmer, 87, of Garland, died Dec. 15, 2006, in Farmersville. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at Rentfrow Funeral Home chapel in Caddo Mills with Rev. Dickson Rial and Rev. Jay Kennedy officiating. Burial follows in the Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Born in Hunt County on Dec. 11, 1919, she was the daughter of J. C. Wygal and Jose Patterson Wygal. On March 13, 1941, she married Claud Farmer in Cash. She was a homemaker.  She is survived by her son, Leon Farmer of Rowlett; a daughter, Claudette Mikeska of Rowlett; sisters Ruenell Gandy of White Settlement and Winnie Mae King of Caddo Mills; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Edward and Paul Wygal; and one sister, Dee McKenzie.

CADDO MILLS — Jessie Geraldine Lampley Ramsey, born Nov. 19, 1933, to Barnie Brown Lampley and Minnie Bell Baxter Lampley, went to be with her Lord on May 16, 2006.  Geraldine had six children, Edward Murphy of Point, Shane Murphy of Quinlan, Janie Bell Staub of Paragould, Ark., Regina Lee Sanders of Greenville, Denise Murphy of Caddo Mills and Euritha Ann, who preceded her in death. Geraldine also had six stepchildren, Richard Murphy of Walnut Ridge, Gary Allen Murphy, Minnie Sue Murphy of Paragould, Ark., and Unice Nadine of St. Louis, Mo., and Roy Gean Murphy and Kenneth Edward Murphy who preceded her in death. She is also survived by three brothers, Willie Ray Lampley of Tulsa, Okla., Thomas Jefferson Lampley and Carol Lynn Lampley of Hune, Ark.; one sister, Rosalee Hatfield of Michigana City, Ind.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Wynn.  A visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Word Church and Ministries, 3068 County Road 2172, in Greenville.  Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. Claudine Rust and Rev. Rudy Thrasher officiating. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.  Rentfrow Funeral Home of Caddo Mills is in charge of arrangements.

CADDO MILLS — Dora Agnes Deyo, 98, of Greenville died May 28, 2006, in Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rentfrow Funeral Home chapel in Caddo Mills. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.  Born Aug. 6, 1907, in El Campo, she was the daughter of Fred J. Schneider and Minnie Klein. She worked in sales and was a Methodist.  Survivors are a son, Joe Deyo of Aztec, N.M.; daughter Evelyn Oliver of Caddo Mills; a brother, Walter Schneider of Midland; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.  Four sisters, one brother and her parents preceded her in death. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Foundation.  The family has requested no visitation.

Mary Louise Lara, 60, on the wings of angels, she went to be with her Father on June 5, 2006, at the Dallas Baylor Hospital following a courageous battle with a lung illness. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at St. William’s Catholic Church. Father Paul Weinberger will officiate. Burial follows in Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.  She was born Nov. 3, 1945, in Greenville to the late Marciano and Maria Alanis-Lara. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1964 and started work at Texas Instruments. On Sept. 2, 1967, she was united in marriage with Robert D. Lara in Greenville. She worked at the Hostess Bread Store, Station House Deli and most recently, Mary of Puddin Hill, all of Greenville. She attended college courses at East Texas State University and Paris Junior College. Her hobbies included craftwork, cooking and most especially crochet. She adored animals and had many pets throughout her life. She was active in St. William’s Catholic Church, Right-To-Life, Boy Scouts, Twins Club, and the PTA. She enjoyed giving gifts to children and playing games with them. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She never forgot a name or face and loved talking with relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by many.
Mary is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Laura of Houston and Joe and Tammy of Pflugerville; daughters Monica Atherton of Greenville and Elena and husband Enrique Pol of Dallas; seven grandchildren, Joshua Lara, Christian Thornton, Brian Lara, Allison Atherton, Ana Lara, Henry Lara and Jaxon Lara; three sisters, Rita Denton, Tina Ramos, and Nancy Hernandez; one brother, Modesto Lara; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren Martha and Phillip Lara.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Angelita Lara (in infancy); two brothers, Cecil Romo and Eddie Lara; and four nephews, David W. Jacobs, Steve Lara, David Brack Lara and Christopher Ramos.  Pallbearers will be Elias Hernandez, Ricky Laningham, Christopher Duncan, Phillip Lara, Ramon Lara and Dan Ard. Honorary pallbearers include Hector Lara, Nicholas Lara, Peter Lara, Gabriel Lara, Carlos Denton, Tony Vargas, Bobby Vargas, Santos Garcia and Jesse Gomez.

CADDO MILLS — Billy Vernon Lee, 79, of Caddo Mills, died July 8, 2006 at his residence.  Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Caddo Mills with Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. Burial will in Caddo Mills IOOF Cemetery.  Born in Union Hill (Caddo Mills) on March 24, 1927, he was the son of Douglas Lee and Lena Bost Lee. He married Neva Sebastian on Aug. 20, 1949 in Rockwall. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked in order filling for Kraft Foods. He was a Baptist and a Mason.  He is survived by his wife, Neva Lee of Caddo Mills; daughters and sons-in-law, Billy Kaye and Ross Powell of Greenville, Karen Gail and Wendell Williams of Caddo Mills and Kathy Annette Howard of Cash; brother, J. C. Lee of Garland; grandchildren, Billy Douglas Powell of Greenville, Karen Lee Ann Escalante of Cash, Jeremy Lynn Howard of Lone Oak, Joseph Edward Howard of Cash, Shanna Dena Jennings of Caddo Mills and Shelly Cheree Shipp of Germany; and great-grandchildren, Sadie, Halie and Hunter Howard, Kayelee Powell and Josh Escalante.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and one sister.  Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday.

CADDO MILLS — Clyde Knight, 94, of Caddo Mills died July 25, 2006, in Rowlett. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Full Gospel Church in Caddo Mills with Rev. Brad Howard officiating. Burial is at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.  The son of Henry and Rebecca McCasland Knight, he was born April 16, 1912, in Ardmore, Okla. On Sept. 22, 1934, he married Ruby Dillon in Caddo Mills. He was a farmer.  Survivors are a daughter, Flora and husband Wayne Poe of Caddo Mills; a granddaughter, Hope Dilling; and great-granddaughter Brook Dilling of Rockwall.  He was preceded in death by his wife in February 2004, his parents, three brothers and one sister.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rentfrow Funeral Home in Caddo Mills.

CLEBURNE — Funeral services for Effie Mime Jones, 89, of Cleburne, formerly of Caddo Mills, are at 10 a.m. Monday at Rentfrow Funeral Chapel in Caddo Mills with Rev. Jerry McGinn officiating. Interment will follow in the Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Born in Paducah, Texas on Aug. 13, 1917, she was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Fletcher Clay. She married Noel Jones in Quinlan in 1929. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.  After retiring from the Caddo Mills School, where she worked in the cafeteria, she worked for several years in the cafeteria at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.  She is survived by her son, Joe Ray Jones and his wife, Martha, of Joshua; granddaughter, Rhonda Klein of Houston; grandson, Adam Jones of Houston; and sister, Bernice Faulkner of Euless.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Noel Jones, and a son, Robert Jones.  Visitation is scheduled from 2 until 4 p.m. today at the funeral home

Stanley Morris Marak, 72, of Greenville died the evening of Sept. 6, 2006, at his residence. A rosary is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. William’s Catholic Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. William’s Catholic Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Father Paul Weinberger will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.  Son of Frank J. and Agnes Gerik Marak, he was born July 29, 1934, in West. He graduated from West High School in 1953 and received an associate’s degree from Navarro Junior College in 1958, then graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1960 from North Texas. Mr. Marak served in the U.S. Army. On April 21, 1972, he married Sandra Talley Butler in Greenville. He was co-owner of East Texas Paving Company with his partner John T. Marek from 1965 to 2002.  Mr. Marak was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church in Greenville, the VFW in West, Knights of Columbus in West and the Knights of Columbus in Greenville of which he was a past Grand Knight.  Survivors are his wife of Greenville two daughters, Lori L. Butler of Greenville and Lachelle Johnson and husband Justin of Caddo Mills; grandchildren Jordan Johnson and Jacey Johnson of Caddo Mills; three brothers, Alfred Marak and Bobby Marak and wife Mary Ann, all of West, and Raymond Marak and wife Janie of Ennis; and four sisters, Evelyn Vrbas, Henrietta Snokhous, Helen Klish and Rose Kubacak and husband Charlie, all of West.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur Marak, Harry Marak and Frankie Marak; and two sisters, Edith Sulak and Molly Vanzura.  Pallbearers will be John Marek, Toby Wilkinson, Gordon Jones, John Miller, Curtis Scott and Jerry Selter. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  The daughter of Elsie E. and Eula Mae Martin Moore, she was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Hunt County. She was a retired librarian for Parker College.  Survivors are sisters Joyce Blue of Rowlett and Shirley Walker of Carrollton and several nieces and nephews.  Her parents preceded her in death.

CADDO MILLS — Jason Edward Dewayne “Wayne” Fox, 31, of Caddo Mills, died Sept. 21, 2006 in Dallas from a car crash. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Rentfrow Funeral Home. Burial is in Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  The son of Gary Alton and Shelia Mae Fox; he was born in Aug. 4, 1975, in Dallas. He married Darla Kay Robbins on Dec. 27, 1999, in Rockwall.  Mr. Fox worked as water plant supervisor for the City of Dallas. He also owned a business named Fox Utilities.   Mr. Fox is survived by his wife of six years of Caddo Mills; three sons, Dakota, Riley and Micah Fox of Caddo Mills; a daughter, Morgan Fox of Caddo Mills; his parents of Caddo Mills; his brother Gary Fox, Jr., of Commerce; and his sister Rosa Lynn McCain of Blue Ridge.  He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Erma Cox.  Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home

JOSEPHINE — The Honorable Gilbert R. Hess, the mayor of Josephine, passed away Saturday, Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in Greenville.  Mr. Hess was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1946, in Dallas; the son of Gilbert R. Hess II and Vivian Myrl Helms Hess.   Mr. Hess was a lifelong resident of Josephine; attending Community High School in Nevada. He attended East Texas State University, where he achieved both bachelors and masters degrees.  After college, he married Linda Jane Smith of Farmersville.  Mr. Hess’ professional life was marked by community service. He served as a coach and teacher in the Community Independent School District and superintendent in the Lovejoy Independent School District.  More recently, he served as mayor of Josephine from 2004 until his death. As mayor, he was instrumental in the acquisition of a new water tower, reorganizing the fire department, assisting resident with obtaining government funds for construction of new homes, and in the organizing of community-building events such as the annual Fourth of July celebration and Christmas parade.  He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons Rob, who lives in Rockwall with his wife Judy and their children Alexander and Julia-Claire, and Jon, who resides in Royse City with his wife Summer and their sons Brayden and Jaxon; and several cousins and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father and an infant daughter, Robin Lynn.  Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at the First Baptist Church of Josephine with Brant O’Connor and Mark Newsome officiating. Burial is in the Caddo Mills Cemetery in Caddo Mills.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville, which is in charge of the arrangements.

CADDO MILLS — Howard Joseph O’Neil, 73, of Caddo Mills died Nov. 4, 2006, in Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rentfrow Funeral Home chapel with Father Paul Weinberger officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Born Dec. 14, 1932, in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of William and Helen Moran O’Neil. He married Irene Paskas on Sept. 3, 1955.  Mr. O’Neill retired from the U.S. Air Force as a T-sergeant. He was Catholic.  Survivors are his wife of Caddo Mills; daughters Cathy O’Neil of San Antonio, Diane O’Neil and Christine O’Neil of Dallas and Karen and husband O.Z. Morrow of Caddo Mills; a brother, Richard O’Neil of Massachusetts; grandchildren Zachariah and Madison Morrow of Caddo Mills; and several nieces and nephews.  His parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.  Donations may be made to the Heart Fund.  Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

DALLAS – Danny Ray Villanueva, born Jan. 26, 1958, in Dallas, died Nov. 13, 2006 in Dallas.  Danny was a member of Knights of Columbus 799 and was also very active in St. Bernards Clairveaux Catholic Church and School.  He was preceded in death by father, Porfirio “Threaly” Villanueva, and a brother, Tony.   He is survived by his wife, Beth Villanueva; a daughter, Hillary Villanueva, a Bishop Lynch student; his mother, Sofia Negrete; numerous nieces, nephews, family and innumerable friends.  A rosary is scheduled at 7 p.m. today at St. Bernards Clairveaux Catholic Church, 1404 Oldgate Lane, in Dallas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 2 p.m. Friday at St. Bernards Clairveaux Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Evelyn Merle Gossett, 85, of Greenville died Nov. 25, 2006, at Greencrest Nursing Home.  Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Rentfrow Funeral Home chapel in Caddo Mills with Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. Burial is in the Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery.  Mrs. Gossett was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Caddo Mills to Goble Williams and Ola Mae Kurfess Williams. She was married to Woodrow Gossett.  She was a retired inspector for Haggar Pants and a homemaker. She was a Baptist and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Woodrow W. Gossett; one sister, Nell Brooks; one sister-in-law, Mary Gossett; four nieces, Sandy Sarringer, Jerry Gail Dawson, Reba Sherrel and Glenda Towell; six nephews, Charles Williams, Robert W. Gossett, Malcolm Thomas, Darryl Norris, Danny Payne and Dusty Payne and several loved great-nieces and great-nephews.  Pall bearers are Travis Owens, Rowdy Payne, Danny Payne, Dusty Payne, Dale Gossett and Bill Dawson.  Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Pete Gossett; two sisters, Joyce Williams and Margaret McAbee and her parents.

John Childs Jr.
1968-2005

Funeral services for John Henry Childs Jr. of Caddo Mills were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Price officiating.  Burial was at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills.  Mr. Childs died August 5, 2005, in Irving.  He was born October 12, 1968, in Rockwall to John Henry and Bernice Grant Childs.  He married Kimberly Rector Childs. Mr. Childs worked in construction.  Surviving are his wife of Caddo Mills; a son, John Henry Childs III of Arlington; stepsons, Desmond Bridham and Quintais Rector of Caddo Mills; two daughters, Kristorya Childs and Cortney Childs of Rowlett; brothers, Donald Scott Childs of Greenville and Victor Kirk Childs of Sulphur Springs; sisters, Betty Neal of Caddo Mills, Vera Jeffery of Greenville and Belinda Lewis of Emory; and several grandchildren.  A brother preceded him in death.

Lawanda Johnson, 84, of Greenville died June 29, 2006, at a local nursing home. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. today at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Caddo Mills. Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  She was born on March 6, 1922, daughter of Elbert F. and Rheata Cannon Allen. She married Roy Edward Johnson in 1952 in Greenville. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and James Handley of Campbell; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Janet Johnson of Greenville; grandchildren Lynne and Paul Divita of Rockwall, Jeff and Alison Handley of Fort Worth, and Melanie D’Ann Johnson of Arkansas; great-grandchildren Tricia and Nicole Divita of Rockwall; a nephew, Allen and Char Crittenden of Billings, Mont.; and a niece, Mary Nell Bottoroff of Oregon.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; and a sister, Margia Allen Ellis.
