Nicholson / Balthrop Cemetery is located in Hunt County, Texas approximately 1 mile west of Webb Hill Cemetery and 1/2 mile north of Hog Eye / Celeste Cemetery. The first burial here was Robert Balthrop in 1852 when the cemetery was called Balthrop Cemetery. It was on the east side of the county road. Later the Nicholson Cemetery was started on the west side of the road. The road was changed (years later) to go through part of the cemetery. This caused both cemeteries to be located on the east side of the road. Sam West told his son, John West, that there were some slaves buried here in unmarked graves. Sam in buried in Farmersville, Texas. One stone is broken and unreadable except, born Nov. 2 and died Feb. 9 Another stone is broken and the only readable words are "ant L" (inside of a circle). There are other letters in front of the ant but they are not readable. This stone is next to the one with Bonnie (inside a circle), They both may be Mitchell's since both stones appear to be alike. Note: Names with # sign, mean I did not locate a tombstone on 5-22-2001 and 11-14-2001 when I went to the cemetery doing my research.

The picture of Robert S. that I took yesterday is not readable but shows the top part "Robert S." which is readable.  I am sending both pictures.  The inscription on the stone comes from Sharon Tatom who visited Nicholson several years ago when the stone was more readable  Mary Johnson (MJ)
