Johnney Burns (Sulphur Springs News Telegram, March 19, 1979)

Johnney Burns, 75, of Miller Grove died at 4:30 a.m. Monday in the Commerce Medical and Surgical Clinic.

Mr. Burns was born Aug. 30, 1904 in Miller Grove to James L. and Lessie Green Burns. He married Virgie Johnson in Miller Grove in 1926 and was a member of the Presbyterian church. His wife preceded him in death in 1971.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Miller Grove Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Ridley officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Burns of Garland and Keith Burns of Dallas; a daughter Mrs. Peggy Rohrer of Commerce; four sister, Mrs. Lerlene Johnson of Mesquite, Mrs. Irene Dodd of Lone Oak, Mrs. Roxie Brand of Garland and Mr. Woodie Hurst of Greenville; two brothers Frank Burns of Miller Grove and H.C. Burns of Greenville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dalton Mosley, James Ray Garrett, H.C. Burns, Jr., Larry Burns, Leslie Hurst and Kenneth Dodd. Keith Delay and Earl Bishop will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The body will lie in state at the Tapp Funeral Home until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
