Bell, G. W. - b. 3 Sept. 1875, d. 20 Jan. 1910 (George Washington Bell - Our community heard the sad news Thursday of the death of our friend and neighbor George Bell, January 20, 1910. He was 34 years and 4 months old, being raised in Hopkins County. He died of pneumonia, being sick only five days. The funeral services were held at Harper’s Chapel, conducted by Bro. H. G. York. He was buried in the Martin Springs cemetery, it being conducted by the W. O. W. He leaves a wife and four small children. He was born in Hopkins County, September 3, 1875. His wife, Mrs. Bell, was the daughter of Mr. Sid Harper, well known citizen of the county. He became a member of the Martin Springs Camp No. 1686, of the Woodman of The World, October 30, 1909.)

Bell, May - b. 1 May 1883, d. 31 May 1911, w/o G. W. Bell (Obit - Mrs. May Bell died at her home near Harper’s Chapel, March 31, 1911. She was the wife of Rev. George Bell who died some eighteen months ago, leaving in her care four little children dependent upon her for support. But God, for some reason, has seen it proper to take the mother to himself just at such at time when it seems that it will be so difficult for them to be without a mother’s care. Mrs. Bell was the daughter of Mr. Sid Harper. She was raised in the community and worthy member of the M. E. Church at Harper’s Chapel, at which place the funeral was held, being conducted by her pastor, Rev. Tittle, of Como, and H. G. York.)

She was born in Mississippi, on Feb. 25, 1843. She had suffered untold pain for something near two years. Mrs. Corbin married twice. Her first marriage was to Mr. Bob Nolen, and to them were born four children. One of these four children survive her, who is Mrs. Joe Patman of Sulphur Springs. After his death in later years, she married to Mr. Corbin and to this union was born nine children, six of whom survive her, whom are Mrs. Garrett of Forest Academy, Mr. Grant Corbin of Sulphur Springs, Mr. Horace Corbin of Shady Grove, and Mr. Will Corbin, Mrs.Mitchell, and Mrs. Keltner of Oklahoma. She was buried in Martin Springs cemetery, with services conducted by Bro. W. W. Morris)

He had been in bad health for two years. He was born and raised in Gordon County G., on Dec. (Sic) 1852, and was married to Ellen Baxter. Five children were born to them. Came to Texas 17 years ago and had lived in Martin Springs ever since. Member of the Methodist Church. He leaves a wife and four children, one brother and one sister.)

Nichols, J. V. - b. 19 Sept. 1868, d. 8 Oct. 1925 (Obit - J. V. Nichols died this morning at his home just north of town after a short illness. Judge Threatt was called to hold an inquest and his verdict was death from self-administered poison. Mr. Nichols had been in ill health for some time and for the past few days had been despondent. He came to town this morning and on the way back home is supposed to have taken the deadly poison which caused his death soon after he reached home. He is survived by his wife and several children. Burial will be in the Martin Springs cemetery (Daily News-Telegram, Thurs., Oct. 8, 1925)

Otts, Ben F. - 1861 - 1930 (Obit - B. F. Otts died January 12, 1930, at his home near Martin Springs, after an illness of one week. He was born November 1, 1861, in Georgia. Was married to Miss Lucy Goss, she having died within a few years. To this union one child was born, Mrs. Cora Jennings, of Martin Springs. He again married, this time Miss Mary Owens who died some twenty years ago. To this union eight children were born, seven of whom survive him - Owen and C. C. Otts, Sulphur Springs; M. R. Otts, Rome, Geogia; Mrs. Sanford Bozeman, Washington, D. C. ; Mrs. Mack Preutt, H. L. Otts and Mrs. Jewel Stephens, Dallas. His body was laid to rest in the Martin Springs cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Bro. Walker, assisted by Henry McCorkle.)

She was born and raised in Georgia, and moved to this county about 13 years ago and lived in the Martin Springs community until her death. She leaves a husband and nine children. She was a member of the Methodist Church) ( It was later reported - J. W Owens and wife has left for their home in Rome, Georgia, after spending several days with their son-in-law, B. F. Otts, south of town. They came to attend the funeral of their daughter, Mrs. B. F. Otts, but owing to miss-connections arrived too late.)

Sailors, Alford L. - b. 26 Jly. 1848, d. 26 Mar. 1934 (Obit - A. L. Sailors, pioneer citizen, died Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Steed, three miles east of Como. He was 85 years old and is survived by two sons and two daughters, Rev. J. W. Sailors, Concho County; Marion Sailors, Durant, Okla.; Mrs Pete King, Pickton; Mrs. Walter Steed, with whom he made his home. Funeral services and burial were held at Martin Springs.)

Sailors, Susan Maron - b. 12 Aug. 1843, d. 19 Dec. 1924 (SUSAN MARON SAILORS, pioneer citizen of Hopkins County, died in Nacogdoches Sunday, Dec. 19, 1924, and the remains were brought back to Como for burial today. Her son, Rev. Joel Sailors, of West Texas, and Marion Sailors of Oklahoma, were her to attend the funeral. The remains were buried at Martin Springs with J. J. Autrey conducting the services. Mrs. Sailors was buried by the side of her mother, who was the first person to be buried there many years ago, and for whose family the cemetery was named, her name before her marriage being Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Sailors lived nearly all their lives in the Martin Springs community, only moving to Nacogdoches, three years ago. Mr. Sailors is now in very feeble health)

Seale. Jerry T. - b. 26 Mar. 1855, d. 26 Feb. 1929 (Obit - J. T. Seale, pioneer citizen, died suddenly at the home of Uncle Tom Deaton on Agriculture Street. Mr. Seale had gone to the home of his life-long friend, Tom Deaton, to spend the night. He was sitting in a chair in front of the house, dead, when Mr. Deaton, came in from an adjoining room, having died with something like heart trouble. Later in the night the remains were removed to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Whig Campbell, at Martin Springs, from which place funeral services will be held with burial in the Martin Springs cemetery. The deceased was a native of Tennessee and came to Texas early in life, having made his home in Hopkins County for something like forty years. He is survived by the following children: Zack Seale, R. L. Seale, Marion Seale, Wichita Falls; Tom Seale, Spur; William Seale, West Texas; and Mrs. Whig Campbell, Martin Springs.)

He had been under treatment at Sulphur Springs for 12 months. He had lived in this community (Martin Springs) the greater portion of his life. A wife, several children, father and mother, four brothers, and one sister survive.) ( Later reported - Mr. Sewell was born Ap. 21, 1870, at Martin Springs, Hopkins Co., Texas. In 1892, he was married to Miss Donie Owens, who lived only six years after they were married. To this union were born two children, Dee and Byron, both of whom are still living. He again married in 1900 to Miss Kate Knott, who survives with their only child, Vernon, who is now 10 years old.)
