LOCATION: San Alfonso Ranch, 1000 yards west of U.S. 281 and 1.7 miles north of Faysville.

SURVEYED: Fay and Maria Leach and fran Isbell, January 3, 1992.

HISTORY; Matias Peņa (1898-1979) and his wife Sofia Parras (1911-1988) of San Isidro purchased San Alfonso Ranch about 1960. The family moved to Edinburg from the Parras family ranch, El Carmen north of McCook, in 1956. Several years later, they moved to San Alfonso Ranch. In 1992, the Peņa family (four brothers and three sisters) were operating San alfonso Ranch, where they grow grain.

Matias Peņa Sr established the Peņa Family Cemetery in 1975 at the death of his son Genovevo (1952-1975). It is maintained by family.

San Alfonso Ranch was founded by Jose Ramon Alamia, Hidalgo County Tax Collector/Assessor 1910-1918, and named for his youngest son. It was part of the Medianito ("little sand dunes") Ranch owned by the Vela family of Laguna Seca.
