son of Alonzo "Lonnie" Goodman and Susan Smith, Eli is said to have been raised by his grandmother, his father having died when he was about 18 months old and his mother when he was 9. Eli's parents are said to be buried here also, there is no headstone for them but they could be on either side of him and his wife or his grandmother.

her full name is Elizabeth Caroline Pritchett Smith, she married George W. Smith in Joplin, Missouri and they had four children, Matthew, William, David and Susan, George enlisted in the Civil War and was killed at Wilson's Creek August 10, 1861, she is said to have brought herself and the children here by wagon to where she had a brother living at Lydia, the town Lydia is named after her niece. She usually went by Caroline and never remarried.
